Jessica Faiz, MD, MSHPM is an emergency medicine physician, Assistant Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCLA, and research faculty at the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Affairs (VA), where she is a Core Investigator at the Center for the Study of Healthcare Innovation, Implementation and Policy. Born and raised in the Northeast, Dr. Faiz graduated from Brown University and went on to work as a New York public school teaching assistant in the South Bronx. Dr. Faiz received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx and completed emergency medicine residency at Boston Medical Center, where she was elected Chief Resident. In medical school and residency, Dr. Faiz worked to develop pathway programs for high school students to enter careers in science and medicine, and served as Chair of the national Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association.
Dr. Faiz earned a Masters in Health Policy and Management while completing her fellowship with the National Clinician Scholars Program at the UCLA, Los Angeles, and the Greater Los Angeles VA. Dr. Faiz’s work on racial and ethnic differences in systemic barriers for those taking the Medical College Admissions Test was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Health Forum and recognized by national news outlets, coupled with Opinion Editorials published in STAT News and USA Today. Her current research projects include the evaluation of a nationally expanding VA Tele-Emergency Care program with an equity focus, and partnering with the UCLA health system to increase access to care for California Medicaid-insured patients in the ambulatory care setting.
