Medical students at DGSOM learn POCUS in all four years of their education. Their POCUS training is integrated with other major elements of the HEALS curriculum, including the first year Foundations of Practice and Scientific Foundations of Medicine courses, and in their clerkship year, in which they are taught POCUS skills every two months as part of the Intersessions course. In addition, they have an opportunity to develop as peer educators in anatomical sciences and POCUS in the Training in Medical Education and Practice program. During their fourth year, they benefit from clinical POCUS electives that are specialty-specific, including our combined Reagan/Olive View-UCLA POCUS elective.
